Aim to record 100+ species in the diverse but adjacent habitats at Lost Maples SNA/Utopia (Hill Country) and Uvalde (dry and brushy).
All levels of birding experience means EVERY BIRDY is Welcome!
Like all our Custom Guided Tours, this tour is customized for YOUR birding abilities and fitness level and 2) Because a FUN experience is always more important than the number of species, no one will be pushed beyond their limits to meet the 100 species goal.
BACKGROUND
A 'Big Day' - or weekend or year.... is a birding challenge of strategy and luck to maximize the number of species observed. It requires knowing the best hot spots to find the most species of birds and the logistics to maximize the days’ efforts. Of course, we can guide you to success.
UVALDE offers a unique habitat where the Brush Country meets Hill Country meets Trans-Pecos. Curved Bill Thrashers, Verdin, Cactus Wren, Pyrrhuloxia and other desert species not found in the Hill Country. Add Great Kiskadees, Audubon’s Oriole and Green Jays and you know it’s going to be a great day!
TEXAS HILL COUNTRY offers Golden Cheeked Warblers, Black Capped Vireos, Green Kingfishers and all their exciting cohorts.

RECENT RESULTS
Our goal was to hit 100 bird species in 2 days
• Lost Maples and Uvalde : 94 species!
• Add HOH Fishery in Kerr County = 104 species
So…
• Mission of 100+ species : YES
• In 2 days : Well, not but it leaves us something to shoot for next time.
• Still, we shared an EXCELLENT experience with so many great birds and birders across 3 counties. 100 is a fun and appropriate target that requires both attentive birding and cooperative birds.
These particular dates were chosen to celebrate Global Big Day (5/9) but book this tour anytime.
