a. Beginning Birding

Birding has emerged as one of America's fastest-growing hobbies. We’ll help you get started by showing you how to use binoculars (yes, it’s a skill), finding birds by sight and sound and identifying and learning about what you’re seeing. Busy-Birding is totally KID and FAMILY FRIENDLY.

b. Beginning Naturalist

Nature, it’s all connected. What starts as a search for one leads you to the others: birds, butterflies, dragonflies, plants. Let us show you the local flora and fauna and some tools for exploring and recording them all. We believe start 'em young : we are KID and FAMILY FRIENDLY.

c. Intermediate Birding/Naturalist

Of course, the skills carry over anywhere but in an unfamiliar location the new birds and sounds are well…..new. As the saying goes, every birder is a beginning birder in a new place. Nothing wrong with that; after all, new means exciting! Let’s go see what birds we can add to your life list.

d. Target 100 Challenge

Can you get 100+ species in 2 adjacent but diverse habitats? Of course you can, with a little strategy, a little luck and our local expertise. Inspired by the Big Year movie, we’ll bird the Hill Country and Uvalde on 2 consecutive days … sorry not 365 days. Not a breakneck pace but certainly lots of goal-oriented fun. Appropriate for birders of all levels experience.

e. Photography

Sometimes the focus – pun intended – is not on finding the most birds but getting the best photos of everything nature has to offer. We’ll take you to the best blinds in the state – South Llano River State Park – and help you identify and learn more about the birds you are ‘shooting.’

TWO : As for location, we generally find -

Everyone loves Lost Maples in Vanderpool; that's where it all began for us
Uvalde has a desert-y habitat, with many different birds from the nearby Hill Country locations. Our Target 100 Challenge is a multi-day tour to trips leverage this fact and try to rack up 100 species in 2 days.
South LLano River State Park in Junction has the BEST and easily accessible blinds in all of Texas. They offer a great opportunity for beginning birders and those wanting to focus (pun intended) on photography.
Of course, these are just a few suggestion. We regularly bird in a 100-mile circle from Bandera County roughly bordered by Uvalde, Junction and San Antonio and will create a tour that fits you.

To be sure you see what we are seeing, we have quality binoculars for use during our guided interpretative tours and beginning birding classes. We are happy to show you how to calibrate them for your eyes, use them to see birds, clean 'em and more. Travelers, this leaves more room in your luggage for souvenirs. And yes, we are BIRD NERDS!
