Butterflies Gone Wild
Monarchs are trickling in! Use our Scavenger Hunts to identify and tally Hill Country butterflies and plants/flowers
Admittedly, butterflies are ALWAYS wild but you get the idea....
Monarchs are starting to show up in the Texas Hil Country - YAY!!!!!!
We started our day (10/18/2025) at the wonderful garden at the Medina River Oaks Courts and found at least 20 species of butterflies - including a lovely of 8 Monarchs easily seen from the patio. Species included LOTS of Queen, Pipevine Swallowtail, Huron Skipper and Fiery Skippers. Less but still many, many, many : Monarch, Cloudless Sulphur, Julia's Skipper, Clouded Skipper, Phaon Crescent, Painted Lady, Giant Swallowtail, Gray Hairstreak, Ceranus Blue and Desert Checkered Skipper.
There were probably more but this is what we can recall after a full day out at the Great Pumpkin Patch.
Come on out the the Courts to enjoy the garden, the food, and the Pumpkin Patch.
PS. Drop in on the garden anytime and bring our Butterflies and Flower Scavenger Hunts. If There are printed copies in the Cafe - or download them from below. ENJOY !

Scavenger Hunt : Butterflies
One of the most beautiful gardens is at the Medina River Oaks Courts, who hosts our 2nd Saturday Nature Talks. Stroll the gardens and see which flowers you can find and identify in the garden. It's a perfect activity after a coffee, breakfast or lunch in the Art House Cafe. Or, come on out and enjoy the dinner, sunset and a stroll through the garden after a relaxing dinner and music on the patio. The garden is installed and carefully watched by Medina Garden Nursery on the other side of downtown Medina. Less than a mile away, feel free to drop in on Yshmael to learn more about these plants - and take a few home for your own garden.
